Polish Constitution Celebration
Saluting the world’s second oldest written constitution. A symbol of personal liberty and national independence since 1791, the holiday became a focal point of anti-government protest before Poland’s independence in 1990.

Sat May 3rd at 2pm—Celebration of the 109th anniversary of the dedication of Cleveland’s Tadeusz Kosciuszko Monument.
The celebration will include a guest speaker, historical reenactors, and military bands. The bronze monument was restored and rededicated in 2013, as part of a comprehensive renovation of the museum. Outdoors at the monument on the west lawn of the Cleveland Museum of Art. Rain site: St. Casimir Social Hall. Free.

Sat May 3rd at 5pm— Mass and Procession at Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine in Garfield Heights. The procession has taken place since the retreat was dedicated in 1929. Cardinal Wojtila visited it in 1969, nine years before becoming pope. Rev. Andrew Knapik of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, presiding. Free.

An old-fashioned polka party at a historic veterans hall on Fleet Ave. Music by Jimmy K and Ethnic Jazz. Cash bar, side boards, 50’50 raffle. Food available for purchase. Purchase tickets in advance or at the door. Doors open at 3pm. Space is limited, come early to guarantee admission. $12 per person, children age 10 and under $4.

Dancing to the well known band Ritm Melodia of Detroit will commence with a classical Polonaise. All female guests are eligible to be selected Queen of the Ball at the end of the evening. Sumptuous Polish buffet by Seven Roses will include beef rollups, Sophie’s famous chicken, pierogis, red beets and greens, fresh fruits, pastries. Cash bar will feature Polish labels. Dress code: semi-formal. Doors open at 7. $30 for dinner-dance/ $10 for dance only.

Sun May 4th at 1:30—Cleveland Polish Constitution Day Parade in Slavic Village. The usual west-east route along Fleet Avenue has been blocked this year by road construction, and so an alternate south-north route has been established. It’ll be a church-to-church parade from Immaculate Heart of Mary to St. Stanislaus. Theme: “Everybody’s Polish on Constitution Day!†Residents and friends of Slavic Village of all nationalities and cultures will join their Polish neighbors with floats, bands, bicycles, skateboards, more. Surprises are in store at the conclusion.

Thurs May 15th at 5pm—Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz visits Cleveland. The pope’s personal secretary will retrace the steps of Cardinal Woytila in 1969 by processing up the aisle of the Shrine Church of St. Stanislaus for special ceremonies of the Roman Catholic Church.

Thurs May 15th at 6pm—Four Eagles Award Banquet. Recipient is Cardinal Dziwisz. This is a major fundraising event, with all proceeds going to support the continued advancement of the mission of the parish. The award is named for the legend of the miraculous recovery of the body of St. Stanislaus. $75.
